A Message From our

Newly Elected President...

Just wanted to thank everyone for your vote of confidence…

I will do the best I can to keep Gilbert’s going in the right direction, along with the help of our newly elected board members; Mark Bayer, Mike Bayer, John Watson, Ron Watson and Chairman of the board, Dennis DeJaeghere. As well, our new vice president, Jim Beran Jr. and the current officers - Alan Christ, Secretary, Roger Christ, Membership Chairman and Treasurer, Jim Beran Sr.

Please keep in mind that we have a lot of work to do around the club, the grounds, etc. Everyone at this moment has 12 work hours to perform. I’ve always said that it is very easy to get your hours in. Call myself or anyone posted on the board by the janitorial room at the clubhouse that shows the heads of the different committee listed.

On a different note, we are still hashing out the details on another Pre-Rut dinner in September. Please contact Mark Lietke about helping in the kitchen for all that is involved for the food preparations and if anyone has any wild game donations, let him know.

Lastly, don’t forget to attend the monthly membership meeting on the first Thursday of each month and also the board meetings that will be held the second Thursday of every month. If we all work together, we can keep this club on track for a prosperous future! Should you have any questions or comments, please feel free to call me at (586) 749-9224.

  Your President, Sam Colombo

Sportsmen’s Action Needed to Stop the U.S. Postal Service From

Promoting Humane Society of the United States

The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) is allowing the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) to place its anti-animal use rhetoric on postage stamps, and use money gained from the sale of the stamps to further its anti-hunting, anti-animal use mission. Sportsmen’s action is needed immediately to stop this outrage.

Zazzle.com, the company offering the HSUS stamps, reports that through its Community Giving Program 20 percent, or more, of the sales of the HSUS stamps goes to the HSUS.

Earlier this year, Congress amended an 1872 law that forbade advertisements on U.S. currency, including postage stamps. The amendment paved the way for an experimental one-year trial period allowing companies such as Endicia.com, Stamps.com and Zazzle.com to offer customizable stamps via the Internet. These stamps can be printed with everything from baby photos to corporate logos, and in the case of the HSUS stamps, anti-animal use slogans.

Sportsmen must stop this now! Every penny earned through such fundraisers is another penny that will be used to bring and end to hunting, fishing and trapping in the U.S. Contact the USPS and make your outrage known! Send letters to Postmaster General John Potter, 475 Lenfant Plaza SW, Washington, D.C., 20260-0010. Faxes can be sent to Mr. Potter at 202 268-5211. Convince him that it is unacceptable for the USPS to promote and raise money for the HSUS.

Most importantly, call, write and fax your U.S. senators and congressman. Let them know that you expect them to put an end to this exploitation of the U.S. Mail to benefit an

inflammatory organization such as the HSUS. Be sure to send a copy of your letters and faxes to the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance (contact information above).

Avoid sending emails! While e-mail is an excellent way to inform people about an issue, it is not the best way to send opinions. With the click of a button, an e-mail and dozens of others like it can be deleted.

Sample letters for the Postmaster General and legislators are available at the Legislative Action Center. Sportsmen are encouraged to modify, personalize and print these letters to send to the USPS and their legislators. Go to www.ussportsmen.org <http://www.ussportsmen.org> to access the Legislative Action Center.

The U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance protects the rights of hunters, anglers and trappers in the courts, legislatures, at the ballot, in Congress and through public education programs. For more information about the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance and its work, call 614 888-4868 or visit its website, www.ussportsmen.org <http://www.ussportsmen.org>,

GSC looses (by 9-birds) to B&BS

in Brown Jug Shoot

Even though we had perfect weather for the Brown Jug competition and the turn out of Gilbert’s shooters (36) was great to B&BS’ (12), the final bird result wasn’t, with a total of 635 points and 48 shooters in total participating.

The competition consisted of 16-yd, 20-yd and Wobble shoots with an overall loss of 9 birds to B&BS. They took the overall, but it was only on the Wobble that they truly out-shot us!

Second place of the top ten GSC shooters consisted of Doug McMullen - 67, both Gary Gilbert and Sam Colombo placed in 3rd place with 65 each, followed by Thom Wypych 63 and three shooters - John Salvatore, Kim Schnieder and Bo Soulliere getting a 61.
